Mr Glen Ford (CEO) Chris - Service Dept Manage 6-12 Gordon Street West Perth Western Australia 6005 08.06.03 chost@office.abacus.com.au Dear Service dept/ Mr Glenn Ford (CEO) Docket # GS3302 5/6/03 I recently received my computer back from Abacus with a replaced motherboard but I have to say that it ran all right until I opened more than one program. With constant hanging and programs not reading the printer driver & fax drivers. Open more than one pro and it gave a message “Out of Memory”. After trying to fix the problem Windows XP started up and then went to a blank screen. Wouldn’t allow me access to the desktop. So after two days of constantly trying to correct the problem I tried the recovery disk that came with the machine. Which I hasten to add came with no instructions. I booted the machine up and saw that it would go to the Cd to boot. With that I put the CD in the drive and it started up the program. It indicated that I needed the Windows 98 Code. I had an old Windows 98 2nd Edition from one of my old machines so I proceeded. The programs went thru the motions and gave me an error message A:\ghosteer.txt. It didn’t require the code after all that. It didn’t recover a thing. It appeared to lay the files for the programs that were on it when first purchase. But it DIDN’T recover. It didn’t give me any clues of what I was to do from here. So it didn’t solve the problem so I proceeded to install the Windows XP. This certainly worked in it allowed me into the desktop. But as luck has it I had backed up my important details. But I had to ring Microsoft on the Sunday 8.06.03 to get a key to use Windows XP the original key had already been used by me. But my problems began over again. It will not open Word without an error message and sending Info back to Microsoft. The original programs that were on the computer all have to be re installed. Programs operating in an irrational manner. I.e. closing down on their own, not printing, cannot find ports. When I have installed WinFax Pro it couldn’t find the port. Never had these problems when I installed it on the first Motherboard. I am returning this computer and have gone back to my old one. I am of the opinion that what ever was wrong with the original motherboard may have cause conflict with the programs reacting with the new motherboard. Also can you explain that with the old (Motherboard) configuration that there never was script going to the screen prior to Windows opening and now there is. Why is this the case now? Why is that the memory is cut from 528 Physical memory down to 128 Initial memory? Could this be part of the cause? Could you please reformat it and take the desktop back to the original installation? I really think that I have purchase the machine that has been made on the Friday or Monday with the problems that I have experienced with this computer purchase from Abacus. I would like it known that I am not blaming the service dept for any of the above I am just pointing out the problems that I have experienced. I also believe that I have a more than average knowledge of computer and have purchased a number over the years but never experienced as much problems as this one has given us. In the last month and half our family has spent over $3000.00 on Computer and Digital Camera within the Abacus store in Morley so I will be cautious on any purchases in the future. I look forward to your assistance in this matter. Regards Frustrated. Stephen Millar 6.07.03 Dear Mr Ford, I write to your organisation to express my unhappiness of the way that the following problem has unfolded from purchasing a computer from Abacus Morley. I would as expressed with my first correspondence have serious concerns about your front line people. There appears to be incompetence and lack of ownership within your frontline crew. If the way my problem has been handled wasn’t so frustrating it woul
